Throughout the ancient world, knowledge wasn’t transmitted through written texts as we know them today. In fact, many ancient cultures had little to no access to books or manuscripts to pass on their wisdom to future generations. So how did they manage to preserve their knowledge? One of the most effective methods was through mythology. Myths weren’t just entertaining stories, but profound allegories designed to pass on critical truths.
Young people were introduced to these myths by their families and the surrounding society, and as they grew older, their teachers would help them uncover the deeper truths hidden within. However, most of this wisdom was transmitted orally, with written records being rare. Many believed it was unwise to leave such precious truths in writing, where they could be exposed, misinterpreted, or even misused. The secrecy surrounding these teachings ensured they were only understood by those who were prepared to grasp their depth.
It’s also worth noting that some of the greatest thinkers, such as Pythagoras in the West and Laozi in the East, purposefully avoided writing down their teachings. Why did they refuse? Was it to ensure that only those truly committed to the path could access the knowledge, or perhaps because they feared the power this knowledge could hold in the wrong hands? Many believe that the deepest truths of these great minds were reserved for those who sought them out through personal discovery, initiation, and guidance. Socrates, too, never wrote down his teachings, yet we know of them through the works of his students.
Some say that the most precious wisdom of the ancients has been lost forever, either locked away in secret or forgotten over time. Others speculate that it is safeguarded by select individuals or groups, passed down only to those deemed worthy. Could it be that the truths we've been searching for all along lie buried within these myths, waiting to be deciphered?
Yet, despite the mystery surrounding these teachings, we still have access to ancient traditions and mythologies. It is up to us to decipher what might lie behind them. This is what we will attempt to do on this site: decode the myths and seek the truths that they may conceal.
To aid us in this journey, we will also draw upon the wisdom preserved over centuries by the writings of ancient sages, combining the truths left in their texts with the knowledge passed down through oral traditions. Through this dual approach, we aim to uncover the truths they inherited and passed on to us.
